Analyzing Maintenance Work Orders to Identify Opportunities in Work Management Processes

Speakers: Oscar Ruiz, CMRP, Accenture
Time: 10:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Audience Level: Intermediate

An efficient and effective process for reliability analysis is an indispensable tool for any maintenance organization in achieving a substantial increase in equipment availability. This will be achieved through the definition of proper maintenance strategies, developing the necessary information and analysis processes, and developing personnel with proper role definitions. However, which tools or processes currently exist for identifying areas of opportunity within work management processes? What can local personnel do to perform an effective analysis using only the information within their work order management systems? As long as one has the proper metric definitions and the quality of the information systems is adequate, databases and filtering tables can be used to identify opportunities in work management processes.

Comprehensive Maintenance and Reliability Model (MGMC), Aligned with Five Pillars

Speaker: Carlos Parra, CMRP, CMRT, INGECON
Time: 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM
Audience Level: Intermediate

This session presents a model for maintenance and reliability management, aligned with SMRP’s five Body of Knowledge pillars.

Knowledge Management in Maintenance

Speaker: Marco Antonio Moreno Roque, CMRP, Hudbay PerĂº
Time: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Audience Level: Intermediate

As part of the Asset Management process and due to growing demand from maintenance professionals, knowledge management is required to retain key information about the process and train new personnel. This presentation proposes a sequence for gathering information, starting with the description of the process, the functioning of the equipment involved, and the types of faults presented by the components of the critical equipment of mineral concentrating plants, and determining predictive maintenance methods to prepare a database to facilitate knowledge management.

Asset Management Strategy: Adding Value - Improving Performance

Speaker: Santiago Sotuyo, CMRP, ARMS Reliability
Time: 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM
Audience Level: Advanced

We will present the new concept of Asset Strategies Management (ASM) through a conceptual comparison between the development of maintenance strategies in a traditional organization and in an organization aligned with the new ASM concept. We will compare the typical organization (focuses only on faults; poor strategies in Excel; poor control and approval of changes; similar assets in similar contexts with different strategies without knowing why; best practices not applied to other assets, without knowing if performed tasks are approved strategies, where strategies are reviewed only on a case-by-case basis) to the organization with ASM (master data on new assets aligned with the master data framework; general strategies implemented globally with local variations; standardized maintenance plans; ERP connectivity for new plans or updating current ones; integrated tools, a prognosis for budgets/resources; leveraging best local practices globally, review/updating of strategies, monitoring performance).

Managing the Scope of Plant Stoppages: The Key to Success

Speaker: Wilfredo Rivero, CMRP, GE Digital
Time: 10:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Audience Level: Intermediate

This session will cover two activities, one regarding how best to determine the gap on Mechanical Integrity Performance based on best practices and applying a formal assessment process. The second activity we will cover the customization of FFS using RBI and statistical methods to reduce the uncertainty risk level on critical equipment due to a basic design condition assessment

The Challenge of Measuring and Maintaining the Integrity of Safety Instrumented Systems

Speaker: Gyogi Mitsuta Grillet, CMRP, Academia de Confiabilidad
Time: 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM
Audience Level: Intermediate

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) have a design, construction, and validation process to determine the level of safety required; however, IEC 61511 states that the performance of SISs must include detection over the entire life cycle, given the influence of operating and maintenance conditions on the equipment. This last aspect has been explored very little at companies, which is why their detection and validation have weaknesses. Some organizations that have detection only work with lagging indicators at the level of operational execution, so they have little capacity for a timely response to the need to prevent deviations at the level of safety that is required. This work proposes an array of leading and lagging indicators for the early detection of deviations in management until validation of the objective indicator (LIS).

Work Management: the Specific Case of Maintenance Contractors

Speaker: Carolina Altmann Macchio, CMRP, Altmann & Asociados
Time: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Audience Level: Intermediate

The presentation will discuss the unique case of contractor administration for maintenance work management. It is becoming more and more common for organizations to have a high rate of outsourcing in their maintenance departments. How do we select our contractors? How do we contract out maintenance work? How can we ensure the quality of the work? How do we evaluate our contractors? We will take a look at the key process of aligning the objectives of the organization with those of its contractors, and how to develop contracts and win-win situations where the executive arms of the contractors add value, performing effective, top-quality work that helps to sustain reliability, performance and availability of the plant equipment, all without forgetting document management, key to a proper analysis of faults and ongoing improvement.
