SMRP and OSHA Form Alliance to Enhance Safety Practices in the Maintenance and Reliability Profession

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 16, 2018) – The Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals (SMRP) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today announced an official alliance to provide safety information, guidance and access to training for maintenance, reliability and physical asset management practitioners and professionals.

During the two-year partnership, SMRP will work with OSHA to engage members and their employers to provide resources aimed at protecting workers by reducing and preventing exposure to safety and health hazards in the profession. The alliance will also serve to create awareness about the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).

"SMRP recognizes the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safety and health practices and programs to improve American workplaces and keep maintenance and reliability professionals safe,” said SMRP Executive Director Erin Erickson. “We are excited to partner with OSHA to bolster our programing using OSHA’s resources and expertise.”

With more than 6,500 members worldwide and 6,000 CMRP- and CMRT-credentialed professionals, SMRP sets industry standards and best practices in the maintenance and reliability profession through its educational opportunities and published Body of Knowledge.

Through its Alliance Program, OSHA fosters collaborative relationships with groups committed to worker safety and health to prevent workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses. Alliance partners help OSHA reach targeted audiences, such as employers and workers in high-hazard industries, and give them better access to workplace safety and health tools and information.

The alliance will be announced at SMRP’s 26th Annual Conference, October 22-25 in Orlando Florida.
